Introduction

Kevin Lou Jacutan
Professional Consigner

The best 911 Carrera of its time, the ultimate 4S 997.2 compiles half a century of supercar refinement.

The Porsche 911 (997) was manufactured between 2004 and 2013. In 2009 Porsche updated the 997 line-ups, introducing styling changes, a revised engine, and the introduction of the company's new dual-clutch transmission, known as 'PDK'.

These new models were faster, lighter and more fuel-efficient. On launch, the 997.2 was an instant hit among fans and motoring press worldwide. Even Jeremy Clarkson noted the 997 will "make love to your fingertips and stir your soul."

This 911 997.2 Carrera 4S is a refined modern classic presented in the popular factory colour scheme, Grey over black leather with excellent service history, having been owned by Richard for the previous 2 years.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kevin after meeting Richard the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

One hell of a car, driving this thing makes any journey an experience.

Richard has loved his Porsche 997.2 ownership over the previous years, he mentions it being the perfect weekend sports car with refined engineering which creates an excellent driving experience.

Richard came across the car in December 2019 and purchased it with the intent of enjoying the car as a weekend cruiser. Due to lack of use, Richard is now parting with his 997.2 and hoping a like minded Porsche enthusiast will take over ownership.

Richard had the car serviced by Jasmine Porschalink, Porsche specialists last June at ~69,500 miles.

Richard will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

The most distinctive and timeless-looking car on the road, the 911 refined to new heights with new headlights, a longer nose and larger wheels.

Wheels and Tyres

The car rolls on dark grey 19" 10 spoke alloys which are really attractive against the lighter grey paintwork. When getting really close, we noticed a very minor curb mark to the rear nearside wheel.

The wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza's all around, which appear in great condition with plently of tread.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of this Porsche 997.2.

Bodywork

Exactly what you would expect from a well cared for 911 example - the bodywork looks in excellent condition. The reflective rear strip harks back to the impact bumper era of 911.

All panel gaps look correct and tight - please take a look through all the pictures and videos for a detailed view.

Paint

Finished in a stunning grey this 911 really looks the part. The overall finish of the paint has an excellent lustre to it, with the colour looking even across all the panels. Please take a look at the detailed videos for a closer look at the exterior.

Glass and Trim

All in great condition across the car. The trim and glass look the part with no major signs of damage, cracks, or chips.

Please watch the detailed video to see the whole exterior in great detail.

Interior

The 997.2 is a joy to sit within, luxuriously designed with a performance in mind.

Seats and Carpets

Black leather seats are fitted in this example with matching carpets and door cards. All are in excellent condition.

Over ~71,000 miles of travelling and you can tell these seats are seriously well built, hardly showing any wear, only the slightest of creases in the drivers bolsters.

The carpets inside the cabin look in line with the rest of the car, in excellent condition with a deep luxurious pile.

Dashboard

Clean and clear dials with a focus on the driver. Just like in every 911 before it, the dashboard gives you all the information you'd need in every driving situation.

All in great condition and Richard reports all the gauges and dials are working exactly as you would expect in a car of this caliber.

Richard has fitted a Pioneer touch screen replacing the older, outdated Porsche unit. The OEM Porsche unit is included within the sale.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original Porsche steering wheel is fitted in this 997.2 along with the PDK automatic gear shifter, both are in excellent condition. Take a look through the extensive photos and videos to see the detail up close.

Mechanics

The 4S offers an increased performance-focused drive with its larger displacement, lowered suspension and upgraded sports exhaust.

Engine and Gearbox

The larger displaced 3.8L was fitted on all 'S' and '4S' models of the 997.2, offering outstanding figures and times; 0-60 in just 4.3 seconds.

These units represented a significant step forward for Porsche, with 40% fewer moving parts and 6kg trimmed off in bulk from its predecessor. All the 997.2 engines featured a smaller stroke with a larger bore, direct fuel injection, and high compression ratios - 12.5:1 on the Carrera 4S.

Watch our cold start video to see the 4S starting from cold with no issues. Richard had the car serviced by a Porsche specialist last June at 69,518 miles.

Suspension and Brakes

The Carrera 4S comes fitted with adaptive suspension, perfect for any driving circumstance - perhaps you're popping to the shops, or maybe beating you're previous lap time at Silverstone - this car has you covered.

We are assured by Richard, no unusual knocks or rattles - what you'd expect given the age and service history.

The Drive

The four-wheel-drive system adds to the 997's talents, adding an element of safety to an already very secure car. Richard really enjoys getting the 4S out on most weekends, and mentions how confidence-inspiring the drive can be, he reports the car drives as expected.

Electrics and Other

The 911 is fitted with an aftermarket Pioneer touchscreen stereo - whilst not original (sorry purists) it is way more practice and easy to make the most of more modern connectivity. However, the good news is that the OEM fitment is included preserving the originality of the car.

Richard reports all the other electrics on the car are working exactly as they should - no issues.

History and Paperwork

A highly original and desirable Porsche 911 Carrera 4S - one the best variants to own, especially in an appreciating market.

The car comes with a healthy amount of paperwork, receipts, and service history - its most recent service taking place last June at 69,518 miles. Remember the 997 service intervals are every two years in the UK.

Richard will be sad to see this high-performance car go, yet hopes it finds its way to an equally enthusiastic owner.

The 4S gained an impressive amount of performance-focused modifications including:
- Increased displacement from 3.6L to 3.8L
- Lowered suspension with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management)
- 19" alloys
- Upgraded braking (donated from the turbo)
- Sports exhaust
- Bi-Xenon headlights
- Aluminium trim

Checks carried out by us:
- Photo ID of seller.
- V5 checked against seller's photo ID.
- HPi checked and clear.

The car is currently fitted with the personal plate of X440 RMH - this will be changed back to the original plate in time for the new owner to pick the car up - YE09 GYD.

Can I ask why the right hand engine lid snorkel is installed 180 degrees in the wrong direction? (image 24 of the mechanical images). The one on the left is installed correctly and will match with the air intake box when the engine lid is lowered. The right hand one will not…

Hi Richard.
Did Jasmine conduct any form of inspection to produce a report you can share please? How would you describe the paintwork please are there any stone chips, scratches or swirl marks? Did you have the wheels painted, are you prepared to get them re-done before sale. How are the seat bolsters for wear?
Thanks,
Andy

All paperwork is as shown.
The wheels were painted before I acquired the car and as per the detail provided by Trade Classics there is one small chip on one wheel.
The paintwork is in excellent shape for a 2009 car but again as per the trade classic info there are a few minor marks as you would expect for a car of the age and mileage.

Is there an “over rev” report available ?

Hi
There isn’t one available but I would be very confident it has never exceeded maximum recommended revs. In the 18 months I have had it’s had everything it’s ever needed doing at a porsche specialist and they have never flagged anything.

Hi, there seems to be a large gap between first 2 services of 30,000 miles and just over 3 years, is this right?
