Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

Thoroughbred performance through half a century of refinement - the 911 never ceases to amaze.

The Porsche 911 (997) was manufactured between 2004 and 2013. In 2009 Porsche updated the 997 line-up introducing styling changes, a revised engine, and the introduction of the new dual-clutch transmission, known as 'PDK'.

These new models were faster, lighter and more fuel-efficient. On launch, the 997.2 was an instant hit among fans and motoring press worldwide. Even Jeremy Clarkson noted the 997 will "make love to your fingertips and stir your soul"!

This Gen 2 example has been owned by Vivien, Les's wife since new. They're die-hard Porsche fans and spent upwards of ~£18,000 on optional extras to really kit out this Carrera 2S from its already impressive spec. As you would expect it has only been serviced at the main dealer. If you've been looking for a 911 cabriolet, this example could well be the one you've been searching for.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Les and Vivien, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

The 997 took the 911 back to that iconic front end, the Gen 2 added some modern finishing touches.

Wheels and Tyres

This 911 is fitted with 19" twin-tone forged turbo wheels (option 404) which appear in excellent condition all around. The 19" turbo wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport, dated 2009 on the front and 16/17 on the rear. The tyres appear to have a good amount of tread left and present in good condition.

Please review the image and video gallery to see the wheels and tyres in more detail.

Bodywork

Exactly what you would expect from a one-owner since new, well-cared-for, garaged 911 - the bodywork looks in excellent condition. All the panel gaps appear tight and true, with no signs of previous accident damage. All the doors and hood are reported to open and close with ease.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in 'GT Silver metallic', this 911 really does look the part. The paint has an excellent lustre and colour to it, even in colour across each panel.

Again, the images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

All in great condition across the car. The trim and glass look the part with no major signs of damage, cracks, or chips noticed. Clear and crisp lenses to the lights, and the grills in similar great condition.

Please watch the detailed video to see the whole exterior in great detail.

Interior

A pleasure to sit within, this fully loaded 911 is packed with luxuriously features, but the design doesn't lose the performance focus.

Seats and Carpets

Vivien and Les wanted to cruise in luxury, so made sure to order a fully equipped interior, including heated, electric adjustable sport seats options with colour matched backs and Porsche logo-embossed headrests.

The Carrera Red natural leather interior really looks the part and has kept its colour and condition over the years. Take a look at the extensive photos and videos for a detailed tour of the cabin.

Dashboard

Clean and clear dials with a focus on the driver. Just like in every 911 before it, the dashboard gives you all the information you'd need in every driving situation. All look to be in excellent condition and all the gauges and dials are reported to be working.

This example comes with the extended Sports Chrono Plus package, adding the central mounted analogue clock, driver-selectable driving modes, launch control, motorsports-inspired gear shifting. Lots of other options on this car like the extended leather and colour matched centre console.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Just as you would expect, the steering wheel is custom to the car, a twin-tone aluminium three-spoke multi-function steering wheel has been chosen along with the PDK automatic gear shifter, both are in excellent condition. The steering wheel optioned with heating for those chilly British mornings.

Take a look through the extensive photos and videos to see the detail up close.

Mechanics

A full performance-focused drive is offered with the larger displacement, sports suspension, and brakes.

Engine and Gearbox

The larger displaced 3.8L was fitted on all 'S' models of the 997.2, offering outstanding figures and times; 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 180MPH.

These units represented a significant step forward for Porsche, with 40% fewer moving parts and 6kg trimmed off in bulk from its predecessor. All the 997.2 engines featured a smaller stroke with a larger bore, direct fuel injection, and high compression ratios. None of the issues the Gen 1 "S" cars suffered.

Watch our cold start video to see this 2S starting from cold with no issues and pulling out of the garage, along with the on-the-road footage.

Suspension and Brakes

You might be attempting to beat your previous lap time at Silverstone or even on the school run - this car has you covered with its high-performance suspension and brake set up.

We are assured during the visit that there were no unusual knocks or rattles - what you'd expect given the age and service history.

The Drive

Vivien and Les have loved the 997.2 and have enjoyed many great trips in the car. Having owned this car since new, they covered ~18,000 miles since 2009 and enjoyed every single one.

The ultimate and benchmark sports car, practical enough for everyday driving and quick enough for mind-blowing lap times. Take a look at the 'on the road' video we recorded during our visit to experience the drive in a 997.2.

Electrics and Other

This car is fully equipped with the complete PCM 3.0 system. All the electrical features are fully working, owners report. Heated seats, heated multifunctional steering wheel, Sports Chrono Plus, it's got the lot.

History and Paperwork

Coming from the original owners, this car was optioned with many extras taking the price to ~£93,000 when new, this 911 2S cabriolet with PDK has main dealer service history from new.

This car comes with a healthy stack of paperwork, all OPC main dealer in the form of receipts, service stamps and MOT reports. The most recent service at the Porsche centre was in 2019 ~300 miles ago. 997 service intervals are every two years in the UK. Vivien and Les will be sad to see this high-performance car go due to lack of use. However, they hope to find an equally dedicated owner.

Please explain why “Psm failure” is illuminated with engine running?

Adam Purrier - Trade Classics

Hey Mike – I can answer that one as owned a low mileage 997 C2S for seven years – awesome cars 🙂 If the car hasn’t been used for a while then when you first start it you get the PASM failure notice. It’s just the system has to re-set itself. It usually happened after a couple of weeks of not being run, i.e. car goes into sleep mode. The notice goes away after a very short drive (under a mile). I’ve looked at the on-the-road video and you’ll see there is no warning, i.e. it’s set itself like it did on mine. Hope that helps put your mind at rest. Adam
