Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner and Photographer

After more than half a century, Porsche decided it was time to give us a four-door sedan, and they didn’t disappoint.

First launched in 2009 at the Shanghai Auto Show, the Panamera was the result of a few concept cars over the years but one that had never quite made it to the final stages. Porsche now had a full line up covering all bases from the entry level Boxster, the hugely popular and classic 911 to the SUV Cayenne. The final piece of the jigsaw was the sport-sedan model Panamera.

The styling was taken from a bit of everything in the range, with the headlights similar to the Cayenne, the rear lights similar to the Cayman, and the 911 style front wings with the air intakes in the front bumper. This all came together to create a wonderful looking 4 seater, capable of seating 4 adults with room to spare for luggage. The entry level car launched with a 3.6, originally carried over from the Audi range. This was then stepped up to the V8 powered Panamera S, which was a 4.8L producing 395BHP and this then evolved into the 4S and the GTS, and the model we have here, the 500BHP Turbo.

This car is coming to market from around a years ownership by a seasoned petrolhead. This example finished in a smart black on black colourway comes with a fully loaded specification, and with just 3 former keepers it's a fine example coming to auction.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Deepak the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've always loved performance cars and the Panamera Turbo ticked all the boxes, plus a few more what with it being a 4 seater.

Deepak purchased this lovely Panamera Turbo last year, he's lucky enough to have owned a number of performance cars over the years, and this Turbo coming with service history from recognised independents and a fully loaded spec caught his eye.

Having covered ~5,000 miles, and putting a new air compressor pump on plus four tyres, Deepak has now got the itch for another performance car. This time he’s going British and so the German marque has to go. He'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

The Panamera has a perfect stance when set at full height or in the lower Sports Plus mode - a beautiful Basalt Black Metallic finish just adds to the effect.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels on the Porsche are 20”. These do look to have been refurbished at some point as there is a small area on the near side rear where the paint has come off a little. The others are in good condition, with just some very minor corrosion to the inside of a couple of the spokes.

The tyres are in good condition, with Dunlops at the front and Pirellis at the rear. These were replaced within a few months of each other, and so have only covered a few thousand miles.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the Panamera is in excellent condition, with all the panel gaps aligning as you would expect for a car of this age.

There is one very small dink on the offside rear door from a car park incident. This could probably be easily removed by a paintless dent removal specialist. Please see the gallery for more detailed images.

Paint

Basalt Black Metallic is what the Panamera is finished in, and it looks to be in lovely condition, with just a few light marks around the car, made more noticeable because it's black. It looks like the majority of them would come out with a light machine polish.

The front of the Panamera does have a few stone chips to the bonnet, which we would say is in keeping with the mileage of the car. There are some larger chips to the edges of the wheel arches on the front, and annoyingly just below the stone chip protector on the rear door of the driver’s side

Please see the image gallery for more detailed shots.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in a nice condition, with no obvious scratches or chips which we could see at the time of our visit. The silver trim around the window does have a few light scratches.

The headlights and driving lights are free from any noticeable chips and look crisp and clear, the same can be said for the rear lights too. A small scratch on the rear extending spoiler is visible, again this may be reduced with a polish. The spoiler itself works as it should, fully extending as you enter attack mode with the Panamera.

Interior

Black leather, aluminium and wood trim - what more could you ask for in this luxurious piece of craftsmanship.

Seats and Carpets

The seats in the Porsche are in excellent condition with no real signs of wear to either the base or, more commonly, the bolsters. The black leather outer is finished with a perforated centre. The seats are fully electric and the 18 way adjustments are all working as they should, even as far as being able to tighten the bolsters to hold you in tightly during some spirited driving. The rear of the car does not appear to have had any heavy use over the car's life, so is therefore in excellent condition, these too are optioned as heated seats for the rear.

The carpets are all in the same condition as the seats, and covered with some genuine Porsche logo mats to protect them even further. There is no real wear to the mats, and definitely none to the carpet.

The boot area is clean and tidy. There is some light scratching to the boot plinth from loading and unloading. Under the boot floor is the Bose amp and brain for your in-car entertainment, and the standard Porsche tyre repair kit to the left.

Dashboard

The leather trimmed dashboard has no signs of any damage or scuffs. Centre of the dash is the stopwatch, which is part of the Sports Chrono package fitted to the car. The instruments are all reported to be working correctly. The odometer had a reading of ~67,208 miles at the time of our visit. With the engine running there are no warning lights illuminated.

The wood trim around the centre of the dash and door cards is all in excellent condition with no signs of wear to it. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed shots.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is an optional GT3 style wheel which is in good condition, with just some slight shining of the leather which we would say matches the mileage. The all important F1 style paddle shifts are waiting at your fingertips should you wish to use them, we think you will!

The leather gear knob has no obvious wear which we could see.

Mechanics

A 4.8 litre Twin-Turbo V8 is what makes this Panamera stand out from the rest - with 500BHP and 516 lb-ft of torque, does it get much better than this?

Engine and Gearbox

The 4.8 litre V8 starts up just as you would expect and sounds fantastic exiting through the four tailpipes of the optional sports exhaust. The car, as you would expect with 500BHP, pulls extremely well through the seven speed dual-clutch gearbox, changing automatically or via the paddle shifters.

Deepak has had a Race Chip fitted to the accelerator, and a switch box to the left of the steering wheel, allowing you to select different modes to further increase the power of the Panamera if the Sport and Sport Plus settings it comes with as default just aren’t quite enough!

Suspension and Brakes

The car sits nice and level and quite low as seen in the photos. This was taken with the car in the Sport Plus setting, which is the lowest the car will go. Thanks to the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control system the height can be adjusted to Sport or Normal mode. Recently the car has had a new air compressor for the suspension.

The discs and pads are reported to bring the Panamera to a halt very swiftly, with no juddering. There does look to be some wear to the discs, but these would need checking by a qualified mechanic.

The Drive

There’s no doubt about it, the Porsche is fast! With the car in Sport Plus mode and the exhaust button pressed, you will see a 0-60mph time in around 3.5 seconds with launch control activated. When you think the car weighs in at a hefty 1,990 kg, this shows just how powerful the Panamera Turbo is.

We mentioned the exhaust button. When pressed, this opens two flaps to change the tone of the exhaust and obviously allow for the quicker exiting of gasses, resulting in more power. But just to hear it is enough to send a shiver down your spine.

Electrics and Other

Everything in the car is reported to be working just as it should. There are a few things to point out not often found on this year of Panamera. The car does have Bluetooth, which does allow you to stream music from your phone. The mirrors have sensors which light up to notify you when there is a vehicle to the side of you. As mentioned the steering wheel is an optional item, and the car is fitted with the Sports Chrono Package.

There are a couple of small bits of chrome missing on the window switches on the driver’s side. These are still working as they should. It's worth noting also that the car is still under warranty with the dealer, with it running in to November 2021.

History and Paperwork

Basalt black metallic, black leather, a Panamera Turbo with a cracking specification to transport its passengers at speed and in comfort.

There are a total of 5 service stamps for the car, with the last service carried out on the 8th November 2020. In Deepak's ownership he has had the suspension attended to, you'll see the work for the air suspension pump and servicing which match the stamps in the book. The MOT on the Panamera is valid until 11th November 2021, along with a dealer warranty as pictured valid in to November 2021. The owners manuals for the car and navigation system are also present.

This car comes with all the bells and whistles from new; Sports Chrono package with the active sports exhaust, GT3 style steering wheel with paddle shift, full adjustable electric front seats, heated rear seats, bluetooth connectivity with Bose speaker system,

We’ve done all our usual seller checks; Seller ID, V5C, HPi.

Fully loaded means it has many optional extras like sunroof, ventilated seats, reclining rear seats etc.. Just so you are aware. Your car is actually surprisingly basic for a turbo model, but that is OK too.
