A 4.0-litre mid-mounted flat-six, manual gearbox, Guards Red paint with gold wheels - yes, this 718 Cayman has all the ingredients of something very special.

The 718 Cayman and Boxster initially replaced the naturally aspirated flat-six with turbocharged four-cylinders, which, while more economical, lacked the character of the previous models.

Porsche later introduced their 4.0-litre flat-six into the 718 GTS models, paired with a manual gearbox, to appeal to enthusiasts. Producing approximately 396 bhp and 420 Nm of torque, and revving up to around 7,800 rpm, the 4.0-litre engine brings back the character to the 718.

This specific car is a 2021 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. It comes to market after approximately one year of ownership with our vendor, has covered only around 16,114 miles, and has a current MOT valid until 28.06.2025. Meet the owner

George had owned a few sports cars and wanted to experience what a special Porsche had to offer.

George sold his E46 M3 with us a few years ago. As a huge BMW fan with a past ownership of a 1 Series M Coupe, he appreciates a proper drivers' car. When the GTS 4.0 became available, George seized the opportunity to own one of Porsches driver-focused models, drawn by the allure of the 4.0-litre flat-six.

George has enjoyed the car for around a year and approximately 4,500 miles, but he is now looking for something a bit more classic, with a few options on his list.

Exterior

Gold wheels and Guards Red paint help the Cayman stand out from the crowd.

Wheels and Tyres

The standard multi-spoke wheels looked great in their gold finish.

None of the wheels showed any damage, though we did notice that the finish seemed a little mottled on the driver's side front wheel.

The tyres were two matching pairs: Pirelli P-Zero on the front and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on the rear - all tyres appeared to have plenty of life left in them.

Bodywork

The bodywork around the car looked great, with tight shut lines and panel gaps - we didn’t notice any dents or scratches.

Paint

The Guards Red paint had a great shine and lustre.

There's very few issues to point out, we just noticed a slightly larger stone chip on the front bumper near the nearside headlight, George also pointed out a small stone chip on the bonnet.

Glass and Trim

The glass around the car looked in great condition, with no chips or cracks noticed.

George informed us that he had replaced the windscreen when it was cracked, which coincided with the stone chip on the bumper.

All badging and other trim were present and also looked to be in great condition.

Interior

The sporty feel continues inside, with an Alcantara steering wheel and Sports-Chrono Pack greeting the driver.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather and Alcantara seats with red stitching is in excellent condition.

The carpets also looked in great condition, with no stains noticed, though they could just do with a vacuum.

Dashboard

The dashboard looked in great condition too, with the red stitching continuing throughout.

The odometer read 16,114 miles at the time of our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Alcantara-covered steering wheel looked great, with very little wear noticed.

The gearstick was also wrapped in Alcantara with a metal knob, and in good condition.

Mechanics

A lovely howl comes from the exhaust when you put the pedal to the floor.

Engine and Gearbox

The 4.0L flat-six burbled to life on the first attempt, with no unwanted noises noticed. On the road, it felt great, delivering plenty of power and an intoxicating sound.

The manual gearbox engaged gears with ease, with no crunching observed. It even features an auto-blip function for downshifts, accompanied by a delightful bark from the engine with each downshift.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension was comfortable on the road, absorbing bumps easily while holding the road very well.

We didn’t notice any unwanted noises from the suspension.

The large drilled discs and red calipers looked great behind the gold wheels. They performed exceptionally well, as you'd expect from a modern Porsche, with no pulling or juddering from the wheel under braking.

The Drive

The Cayman truly demonstrated how a sports car should handle on the road—a proper drivers' car. The engine is a standout feature, delivering plenty of grunt and a thrilling sound. The car tackled everything the road could throw at it with ease, and its size provides the driver with immense confidence.

Electrics and Other

The Cayman is equipped with a lot of tech, including the Sports Chrono Pack in the centre of the dashboard, as well as controls for the exhaust and suspension.

Of course we didn’t test everything on the day, however, George informed us that everything is in working order.

With only around 16,114 miles on the clock, this 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is barely broken in.

Registered in June 2021, this car was purchased by our vendor, George, from Porsche Centre Aberdeen in June 2023. During his year of ownership, he has covered around 4,500 miles. The car has been MOT’d, with the current MOT valid until 28.06.2025. It also comes with Porsche Assistance and a Porsche warranty, both valid until 28.06.2025, as it was bought from a Porsche dealer.
