Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

A strikingly handsome saloon powered by the ultimate engine that the '30s had to offer - introducing the timeless Rolls Royce Park Ward.

The Rolls Royce 20/25hp was first introduced in 1929 and remained in production until '36.

The 20/25hp's substantial ladder frame chassis was equipped with an all-around semi-elliptic leaf sprung suspension, four-wheel drum brakes and mechanical servo.

This example has been owned by Roy since the '70s and when he first purchased the car, it required major restoration and years later he had the car ready for use in the summer and at many family weddings. As the car is seeing very little use now he is bringing it to auction with us.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Roy the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

After ~44 years of ownership, Roy has enjoyed many journeys around the UK in his Park Ward.

Roy has owned his Park Ward for ~44 years now, he mentioned to a friend at a party that he was interested in purchasing a Rolls Royce and coincidentally had a mutual friend who was selling one.

When Roy purchased the Park Ward it was originally black, with white fine lines and finished with a brown furniture hide interior. Roy had the car restored and repainted in a lovely dark green over black two-tone in the traditional '30s method of coachwork painting. The car was also ordered with a sunroof.

Since the restoration of the car has been completed, Roy has had an engine overhaul carried out and had many enjoyable road trips in the Park Ward, including the mighty trip up to the Isle of Man for a wedding. Roy will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Style, class and two-tone coachwork - this Park Ward will be the centre of attention at any show.

Wheels and Tyres

The black wire wheels are all looking in very good condition on this Park Ward. The silver Rolls Royce centre caps really look the part too, although would benefit from a deep clean to really bring them out.

The nearside rear tyre is fitted with a Firestone tyre, along with the spare, and all other tyres on the car are classic Dunlop Fort. The tyres are showing slight signs of cracking on the sidewalls, however, the recent MOT report, mentions no advisories or areas of concern.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Park Ward 20/25 is in great condition for its age. The panel gaps look good around the car. We didn't notice any major areas of concern, just some light scratches that come with its age and mileage.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in an elegant and classic dark green over black, the paint appeared in great condition on our visit, considering the age of the car. There are some very minor areas of age-related marks across the bodywork.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great and in line with the mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any major chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The car is fitted with a sunroof from the factory, although Roy has sealed this over his ownership to prevent any humidity or leaks in the refurbished interior. View the image gallery to see the detail.

Interior

Retrimmed during its restoration, the Park Ward offers the uppermost comfort with its large sofa-like seats.

Seats and Carpets

The car is fitted with brown-coloured leather seats with matching carpets, and luxurious wood trim across the interior. These seats have held their shape very well since the '70s restoration. We noticed some very light age-related wear to the drivers seat bolster as pictured.

The carpets, door cards and headlining tell a very similar story, in great condition throughout.

Please take a look in the photos and videos for a closer view.

Dashboard

The wood dash looks tightly bound whilst all gauges and dials are legible. There are some minor signs of patina here as you expect, but overall the dashboard looks very good, please see the photos to assess the condition for yourselves.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A traditional black steering wheel is fitted with chrome gearstick and hand brake, these items appear in great condition with the slightest signs of patina.

Again, please take a look at the photos for a closer view.

Mechanics

Powered by the robust straight-six engine, this touring saloon offers silky smooth performance on every road trip.

Engine and Gearbox

Please watch the "On the Road" video to see the car being started from cold, then run when up to temperature.

On our short trip out, Roy operated the gears with ease and during his ownership, he had the engine overhauled for peace of mind.

Take a look at the mechanical review for a closer view of the engine bay and under the Park Ward.

Suspension and Brakes

The Park Wark offered a substantial ladder frame chassis and was equipped with an all-around semi-elliptic leaf sprung suspension, four-wheel drum brakes and mechanical servo.

Roy reports the suspension setup is very comfortable while offering reliable performance while cornering.

Please view the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

A silky smooth luxurious piece of motoring history.

The Park Ward offers a striking design and comes complete with its reliable Rolls Royce engine heritage - the car is at home during any formal event, and whenever you wish to make an entrance.

Electrics and Other

Roy has reported that the electrical system is in line with the rest of the condition of the car, i.e. in full working order to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

One very attractive pre-war Rolls-Royce with a significant history folder, and coming out of a treasured ownership for the previous 44+ years.

This car is coming out of ~44+ years of ownership with Roy. Take a look at the media to see all the history included in the sale of the car, including the original order form. If you're in the market for a usable pre-war classic with a previous restoration and mechanical peace of mind, then this is the example for you.

Roy will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the car in the comments below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Good morning Roy,
Does the driver’s seat still move backwards and forwards to its original full distance? Will I need to cut the carpet to move it?
Thanks in advance.

Few things
Surely there should be an air box, have you got it?
I take it the sun roof leaks. Are the drain tubes damaged
It appears to be running on a coil, does the magneto not work.
