Introduction

Isaac Wass
Professional Consignor

The Subaru Impreza is a car synonymous with the rally stages of the 90s, made infamous by the late, great, Colin McRae.

With its rallying heritage, cult following, and rubber meets road attitude, the Subaru Impreza is every teenage boys dream - and for good reason too; its turbo-charged 4 cylinder boxer engine produces 220bhp and accelerates to 60mph in just 6.6s, making it a quick car even by today's standards and with Subaru's symmetrical AWD system the Impreza Turbo 2000 soon became a formidable car, both on the road and off it.

This particular example comes to market from ~23 years, purchased with just ~13,000 miles on in 2000, and having only covered ~36,200 miles now. This is an unmolested and pristine example of an original RHD British car, and with just 1 former keeper registered, recently serviced after long time storage, we think the appeal for this well cared for car will be for collectors and enthusiasts.

This listing was written from information supplied by Isaac after meeting Gordon the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Having somewhat of a mid-life crisis in 2000, I decided I wanted a sporty car, something that was both fun and practical.

Looking for a fun weekend car, Gordon was drawn to the Subaru Impreza after reading the excellent reviews in all the fast car mags of the era and went to look at a number of Subaru’s being sold by local dealership R N Golden. He almost immediately fell in love with the Turbo 2000, couldn’t walk away, and decided to take the dive into the world of Subaru ownership.

Since purchase Gordon has travelled only ~23,000 miles since the year 2000, with less than 100 miles since 2017. With the car not being driven much, Gordon has decided now is the right time to sell his pride and joy in the hopes that he can find a new owner who will love and cherish the car as he has. He's just had the car serviced after long term storage, and he'll be happy to answer any questions on the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Equipped with the full Prodrive bodykit and 17” alloy wheels from factory, the blue and gold colour scheme of the Subaru is iconic.

Wheels and Tyres

The 17” Prodrive alloy wheels are painted gold from the factory and to the best of our knowledge this is the original finish. Gordon tells us he has never had the wheels refurbished. While there is some very light curbing visible on the wheels, the 5 spoke items appear otherwise undamaged.

The Pirelli P-Zero tyres are the same tyres the car would have been equipped with at the factory, adding to the originality of this example. Of course the tyres have been changed since the car was manufactured, with these tyres being DOT marked 2014. With plenty of tread left these tyres are in great condition, with no damage to the sidewalls or signs of perishing.

Bodywork

The bodywork is in great condition, with no visible damage to be seen to any of the panels and no misaligned panel gaps to be seen anywhere on the vehicle. When speaking to Gordon about the condition of the car he tells us the vehicle has had no repair work carried out at all, meaning every panel on the car is as it was when it left the factory.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The car is painted in Subaru’s “Dark Blue Mica” paint, and the condition of the paintwork is truly remarkable, with less than a handful of stone chips to be seen for its ~24 years on the road. The clearcoat is free of any major blemishes beyond general swirl marks and wash marring, and under direct sunlight is incredibly glossy and has plenty of depth. There are no scrapes, scratches, or scuffs to be seen anywhere on the paintwork except a small section on the bottom of the driver's door where paint is missing and a small amount of surface rust was showing, nothing serious though. In the past Gordon has had a couple of scratches to the front bumper and some minor work on the rear wheel arches actioned by a recommended local show winning painter.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Much like with the rest of the car the glass is in excellent condition, free of any chips, cracks, or scratches across both front and rear windshields and all four side windows. The glass is once again the original item and has not been replaced during Gordons ownership, likewise the rubber and plastic trims around the car are free of any damage or perishing, thanks to the car being dry stored for its entire life.

Interior

With Momo steering wheel as standard, side hugging bucket seats, and a low driving position, the interior of the Subaru Impreza is as driver focused as it gets for a four door family saloon.

Seats and Carpets

The form fitting bucket seats fitted in the Subaru Impreza were a brand standard and are both comfortable and supportive, allowing for comfort on daily drives as well as good holding power through the corners. The seats are upholstered in cloth which is free from any major damage such as rips or tears and could at most do with a light clean to make them match the exterior. Likewise the carpets are in good condition and free from any heavy wear, with all floor mats being in good condition too.

Dashboard

The dashboard is also in excellent condition, with no major damage or signs of wear to either the upper or lower dash, as well as the centre console which has all the correct switchgear present and correct too, just what you'd expect from a low owners, low mileage example.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Subaru Impreza came fitted with a Momo steering wheel as standard, a nice addition from the factory that certainly helps to remind the driver of its rallying heritage. The steering wheel is in fact in good condition too, with moderate signs of use as to be expected, but no major damage to the leather or stitching.

The gearstick is believed to be the optional extra leather gearstick that was available from the factory for £45 at the time of purchase, and this too is in good condition, with moderate signs of use but no major damage as with the steering wheel.

Mechanics

Powered by a 2.0L turbo-charged four cylinder boxer engine, the Subaru Impreza will travel from 0-60mph in little over 6 seconds thanks to its symmetrical AWD system.

Engine and Gearbox

The 2.0L boxer engine is Subaru’s answer to the typical balance issues had with other four cylinder engine layouts and it works like a charm, providing even and well balanced acceleration with very little engine movement.

On the day the car had not been started in quite some time prior to being pulled out of the garage, but it started without any major issues as can be seen in our video and likewise whilst out on the road the car experienced no faults or issues with acceleration or gear changes, with the car driving and performing faultlessly. Gordon has had a service actioned on the car in advance of sale after the car has been in long term storage.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension on the Impreza is moderately hard as standard, allowing for superior cornering ability, however the ride is not uncomfortable as a result of this. On the day we noticed no issues with the suspension, with no untoward creaking, groaning, or knocking coming from any of the suspension units.

Likewise the brakes seemed to be in good order, with the discs and pads looking to have a good amount of metal left and did not struggle to stop the car both quickly and efficiently while out on the road.

The Drive

With its rallying heritage prevalent in every aspect of the car, the driver needs no reminder as to the true purpose of the Impreza, having been a poster car for many teenage boys around the world it’s hard not to imagine oneself sliding sideways through dirt corners Colin McRae style - but the Impreza achieves much more than that, given its surprisingly roomy boot space, comfortable rear bench, and four doors, this makes for an unwittingly practical car too.

Electrics and Other

During our time with the vehicle we noticed no major electrical issues, with all dashboard warning lights coming on and going off as expected during our cold start video, and all dashboard items are fully working to the best of our knowledge. Likewise Gordon reports no issues with headlights, brake lights, or indicators.

History and Paperwork

Coming from a 23 year stint with current owner Gordon, this low mileage and unmolested example of an original home market Impreza is arguably one of the best examples around

Having travelled just ~36,100 miles in the last 24 years, this example has barely been driven - averaging just 1,500 miles a year in its lifetime. Gordon has owned the car since the year 2000 and with the car only being registered in 1999 this means he has owned the car for the overwhelming majority of its life, having only 13,000 miles on the clock when he bought it.

Gordon has since kept the car well serviced during his ownership, however over the last ten years his use of the car has declined dramatically, with only ~100 miles being driven in the last six years, as a result of this the car has not been serviced since 2013. The Impreza comes with an MOT valid until 29.06.2024

Please note the private registration of T8WRC will not be sold with the car, it has returned to the age related registration of T651 NAK.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in high resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

That’s ok. I’ve just gone through the history again and from what I can make out it was done in 2013. Very very tempted with the car but also just checked the MOT history and the June 2018, June 2019 advisory are a little worrying ? It needs to go up on a ramp and get some real underneath shots I think.
