Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
‘Scoobie’ and ‘Cossie’ as many of us refer to them have blessed us with a vehicle that will become a true classic in the future.
But for now this rallying heritage, the everyday hatchback will serve a purpose to a new owner that is ready to have fun in a rare example.
This car has a story to tell, and many more stories can be told on your travels with this beast. Everything is clean and been cared for as expected. We would like to thank Phil for letting us help him find a genuine owner this car deserves.
Phil is looking forward to the new owner to enjoy this as he embarks on more ‘Cossie’ projects in the future.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Phil the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Just to update everyone on the recall, it is a srt243 passenger airbag trigger module that needs to be replaced at Subaru’s expense. Lead time is around 2 weeks at most Subaru dealers. In addition i will carry out the 9 year service schedule next week. As commented before the major timing belt change was done c. 6000 miles ago in 2015 and not due until 66,000 miles or 7 years, which ever comes sooner. I also had the top coolant hose replaced at the MOT as preventative maintenance. All the best Phil
Thanks for the update Phil – all good stuff for the new owner.
Hi Phil
I’ve just been looking at mot history on the gov.uk site and it’s thrown up an outstanding recall can you shed any light on it ?
Regards neil
Hi Neil, not sure to be honest, not got a notification yet, but I think there were comments on some cars that it could be related to the passenger airbag?? I would need to follow up for you. Cheers Phil
will await your feedback
Thanks neil
Hi Phil just a quick one with it being nearly 10 years old has it had a cambelt change?
Regards neil
Morning Neil, thanks for your interest. The car has been meticulously maintained. The cambelt was changed by Subaru in 2015 at 34332 miles. Confirmation is shown in the service book, please see the 3rd photo from the end. I am in North Devon not far from Barnstable. Sorry cannot do a px on this one. The guide is 23-25k and there will be a reserve on it if it goes to the auction. Please contact the guys at Trade Classics to discuss purchase options, thanks and all the best Phil.
Thanks Phil could I then ask when next belt is due? And also what is cost of tax per year? Just trying to factor in what is going to need doing cost wise, are you available most days during the week for viewing ? many thanks neil
Hi Neil – I’ll let Phil answer the belt question. In terms of a viewing – we arrange that in the office and I’ve sent you a note on email 🙂
Hi Neil, maintenance schedule for cambelt replacement is every 66,000 or 7 years, which ever comes sooner, so based on the last one not due for a while yet. I think the road tax is around £500 per year. It is due an oil service to keep service record up to date but it has done next to no miles since the last one. Inspection on the MOT was fine with no advisories. I am self employed so could make time available. The guys at Trade Classics are organising potential viewings. Please contact them directly. All the best Phil.
Have you any documentation to confirm press car 02
Cheers neil
Hi Neil, yes I do but I would be surrendering the identity and registration if I commented further at this stage, cheers Phil
According to comments on Scooby.net P0-1 was written off, so this is probably the only pre-production car available. Everyone refers to 1 of 75, but not many to 1 of 2! Cheers Phil.
Not a problem just wanted to confirm you have something in writing
Regards neil
Hi Neil, yes genuine car, cheers Phil.
Hi Phil where in Devon are you ? Just want to work out mileage I’m in Somerset so not that far I’m guessing? Would like to view are you interested in a px as part of the deal ? Is there a reserve on auction ? What do you want for it? Regards neil
Hi Phil, is there just a buy it now price that you have in mind? I’m not one to care much for auctions. But if i see what i like then i buy it. Here is my number if you care to private chat about the car.
Hi Graeme, the guide is 23-25k and you can submit an offer before the auction commences. In my opinion this car is really competitively priced against the rest of the CS400 market on offer. Lots of interest for this rare car P0-2. Cheers Phil
Hi Phil,
Very nice looking car, been after one for a while now, i dont think im too far from you would it be possible to view the car sometime?
Also the steering wheel looks like it has quite a lot of wear on it, is that correct from what i can see in the pictures?
And the front lower bumper area looks quite stonechipped, is it as bad as it looks.
Car looks really nice and tiday everywhere.
thanks Kev.
Morning Kev, thanks for the interest. The wheel is not unduly worn in my opinion, the leather is good and stitching tight and still proud on the wheel. No uneven worn areas at all. It is on a par with the rest of the interior which is in excellent condition. It is the point of contact that the driver grips this beast when it is unleashed! This being a very rare pre-production car there would have been a lot of attention.
The car is totally original therefore I have not done any paint correction for the stone chips which are limited only to the front bumper so can easily be put right without any panel respraying. There are a few and I just class them as age related for a 9 year old car. The bodywork and paint is in excellent shape and has been subjected to a minor correction detail and full Gtechniq Ceramic Coatings which would probably make the stone chips more visible!
Trade Classics are handling all aspects of the sale including potential onsite viewings. If you could please fill out the contact us (link In the footer) they will be in touch.
thanks and all the best Phil.
Thanks for the speedy reply I will get in touch with them. And thanks for the honest reply.
you are very welcome Kev, all the best Phil
Hi phil , lovely car mate , can you give me the registration number and the vin details so that i can do my own hpi checks please.
Cheers lewis.
Hi Lewis, thanks for your comments. It certainly is a cracking car! Trade Classics will be in touch with you to provide all the relevant information you have requested. All the best Phil.
Thanks very much Phil.
Very welcome Lewis, any other queries please let me or the TC team know. Thanks Phil
Hi again phil, because this is a pre production model what are the differences between yours and the full production model ? I did notice that the exhaust looked to be standard steel not stanless steel but i might be wrong.
Thanks lewis.
Hi Lewis, good to hear from you. Essentially there is little or no difference between the pre-production cars P0-1 and P0-2 spec wise when compared with the production run of 75. However, when you see articles or sales ads they always reference 1 of 75 cars produced. However, this car is 1 of 2 pre-production cars and therefore is never referenced as part of the 75. Some enthusiasts also argue early cars had a more robust build quality but I cannot substantiate this.
The main modification that Cosworth made to the exhaust system was introduction of a larger capacity tubular manifold and bigger diameter downpipes. As far as the tailpipes and middle section, I think they are standard Impreza STI WRX.
But the rest of the spec is Cosworth engineered forged connecting rods, racing pistons, heavy duty cylinder head studs, multi-layered head gasket, and high pressure oil pump. The ECU had been remapped, and the new compressor design and wastegate actuator had been applied to the turbo. Clutch was also upgraded. The CS400 comes with Bilstein struts and Eibach springs for better quality ride, and better handling with less pitch and roll during cornering. Braking was updated by AP Racing’s larger diameter ventilated front brakes with six-pot calipers.
all the best Phil
Thanks again phil , i know the spec of the standard production models but i just wandered if they were different to yours. The other three cars that i have looked at had a full stainless steel system on them thats why i asked mate.
Cheers Lewis.
Hi Lewis, just back now and been and checked the exhaust, its original to the car full stainless, non magnetic. I knew you would probably know the spec of these cars inside out but just wanted to confirm the build spec for other readers. Cheers mate, all the best Phil.
Hi again Phil , is it possible that i could arrange to come and view the car please.
Hi Lewis yes that is possible of course. Trade Classics are handling all aspects of the sale including arranging onsite viewings. So if you could drop them a line please and we can see what we can arrange. All the best Phil.
Would i be able to view the car in birmingham or would i have to travel to your home to view phil?
Hi Lewis, it would be to my home in Devon I am afraid mate. The car is fully detailed and locked away, so I would not be running it any distance prior to the sale process and logistically it would be difficult to get the car to Birmingham for a viewing.
all the best Phil.
Talk it through with the guys at Trade Classics on Monday and see what we can organise Lewis, all the best Phil.
Hi mate, i am going to look a one in Manchester in the week and i have been to look at two others so far because i want the right car for my money, Ive been saving for a long time so i want the best i can get for my money because this is going to be my last car so i want a minter . I would like to view your car as well to compare all of them and take it from there mate. I am not a time waster, If you would like to ring me that would be good.
Cheers .
