Introduction
Stuart McIntyre
A true British sports car that offers spritely performance and outright driving pleasure.
The Triumph Spitfire was produced as a direct competitor of the Austin-Healey Sprite, and subsequently the MG Midget. Triumph found itself playing catch up, yet eventually ended up producing a quality sports car that rivaled the competition in many ways.
The Spitfire was underpinned by a Herald-style separate chassis and was powered by the same family of engines. Similar to the Herald, the Spitfire was a look created by Michelotti with a closely-cropped interior for two.
This is a Mark II, which was produced between 1965-1967. The car was quite a step up from its predecessor with a retuned engine, revised camshaft profile, water-heated manifold and tubular exhaust manifold which increased the car to 67BHP at 60,000rpm - it remains very accessible and easy to keep on the road thanks to the near-total parts supply.
This particular example, used, enjoyed, and showed for the previous 11 years of ownership. With its classic white over red colour combo, this Spitfire looks beautiful in its restored condition.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Stuart after meeting Shirley the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.
