Introduction
Isaac Wass
Extensively refurbished and one of only around 1,100 made in a RHD model, this is a fantastic example of the Triumph TR5 with a rarely seen Surrey hardtop roof.
Thought of by many as one of the most desirable of the Triumph models, the TR5 took the classic looks of the TR4 to the next level and added a good dose of additional power from the fuel injected straight six, this then paved the way for its successor, the TR6. Only a small handful of the TR5s were ever produced and even fewer in UK RHD spec. Fitted with an all-new fuel injected straight-six engine, which was uncommon in road cars at the time - some claim that this was the first British production sports car with petrol injection.
This UK RHD car is finished in an original Triumph colour; Royal Blue and presents in excellent condition, having undergone partial restoration by its previous owner before finally being finished by current owner and engineer, Hugh.
This listing was written from information supplied by Isaac after meeting Hugh the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Hugh, last question please…. It does not look like the engine bay and boot interior have been painted recently looking at their condition. Please advise if these were last painted circa 2012 when it had the chassis and inner wings etc replaced? Please also confirm when the exterior was painted. Was that very recent? Thank you
Hi Steve
Thank you for your enquiry. I am happy to answer any queries or concerns.
Engine bay and boot interior were painted just over 2 years ago and then the car was sent to a classic car paint shop to be professionally treated and resprayed.
Best regards
Hugh

Thanks Hugh for your response.
So the crankshaft main bearings have not been changed?
Have you had any instances with the Lucas fuel pump suffering with the fuel vaporising and or air locks? I much prefer the Bosch pump solution.
Re the body: Did you replace the top decking panel, I couldn’t see any part receipts for this?
Thank you
Hi Steve
The main bearings have not been changed.
The top decking panel and the rest of the body are all very solid.
I am very familiar with Lucas fuel pumps suffering with the fuel vaporising and have added a temperature sensor to the pump and an indicator on the dash.
The pump motor gets very hot and even hotter on hot days which increases the temperature of the pump body. If the temperature reaches 47 Degrees C that’s when vaporising occurs.
I have attached cooling fins to the motor body and a cooling fan operated by a switch on the dash.
There are two schools of thought between Lucas or Bosh.

Please confirm the original engine block CP369E is the current block?
Please advise what rebuilds have taken place to the engine?
Please confirm oil pressure with engine warm at idle?
Finally had the metering unit been changed in your ownership and does it have the Bosch pump or original Lucas pump? Thank you regards Steve
Hi Steve
Thanks for your Questions.
Engine is the original with reconditioned head Skimmed new guides and reground valves. New piston rings, big end shells and new oil pump.
Good oil pressure all round.
The original metering unit and Lucas fuel pump have been fully reconditioned by Neil Ferguson (Injection Specialist) and new fuel lines all round.

Hi Hugh, it the car fitted with an overdrive? Best regards John
Hi John
Overdrive was I an optional extra at the time this modal does not have.
Overdrive Conversions Kits can now be obtained from Moss or Rimmers.

Hugh
Thanks for letting me know, cheers John
I hope this answers your query.
The rear deck assembly and rear section left and right of the boot have a seam between them which is usually brazed to stop the seam showing any cracks after painting due to body flexing.
I have repaired a lot of these over the years by welding the full seam and grinding a groove to show the seam after painting.
There is a stainless-steel trim beading between the rear wings and the rear deck section. This has been filled with wax oil before assembly.
Just to note some 5s have the trim painted in the body colour.

Hugh
Hugh,
Thanks for the answer re the wires.
Seems I didn’t phrase my question re the welds well.
I’m referring to the bodywork welds that run either side of the tank filler (chrome)., parallel to the boot fixing hinges.
Are these soft brazed. The paintwork along the original hard welds had a slight tendency to crack …. no big issue but most respray/ rebuilds used a soft welds to irradiated the problem.
Thanks again
Q’s: Are the rear welds either side of the tank filler soft?
Are the wires chrome or painted?
I have owned both a 5 and a 4A so know the car.
Hi thanks for your question.
The fuel tank is very sound no sign of corrosion round the filler and no smell of fuel.
The wires wheels were refurbished and power coated in Chrome Effect by Tudor Wheels Ltd as shown on invoice.
Regards
Hugh
