Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

A beautifully restored Triumph TR6 ready to drive and enjoy.

Roughly 25 years ago, the car was restored with lots of invoices detailing what parts were used. Since then, Lawrence has owned the car since 2003, maintaining the condition of the restored TR6 when needed.

The TR6 is a fun car - no doubt. The straight 6 engine upfront, soft-top down in the sun, and the sports exhaust is all the making of such an enjoyable driving experience.

This example has been owned and cherished by Lawrence for 17 years. Now, it’s available for a new owner to get behind the wheel, with little worries about corrosion, they can drive this example away proudly.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn visiting Lawrence's TR6, having photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I have used the Triumph sparingly as a holiday car over the years and always enjoyed my time behind the wheel.

Lawrence has owned the TR6 for a proud 17 years and uses the Triumph as a holiday car when he comes down to Southampton from Northern Ireland. The car has been kept in storage to maintain very good condition and also notes/invoices detailing the repairs made on the car. Of course, he didn't want to have a non-runner on holiday!

As Lawrence is in Northern Ireland we were unable to meet face-to-face but from what we have seen by this example, he is a dedicated owner having had the interior replaced along with other repairs under a long ownership.

Exterior

This TR6 is finished in a lovely shade of red known as Signal Red, having been repainted to its original colour during restoration.

Wheels and Tyres

15" wire-wheels were added to the car in 2002 and maintain in excellent condition. Wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport 200 tyres all around. This example allso looks to have the original spare wheel from 1969.

Although they maintain excellent tread, the tyres are reasonably old and are starting to lose some shape, offering the opportunity for the new owner to replace them with a fresh set for peace of mind.

Bodywork

From our checks, the bodywork looks in generally good condition on this car, please take a look a the video review to see the shut-lines and panel gaps. The shut line on the offside door is not perfect so may need a little fettling.

Since purchasing the Triumph, Lawrence has kept the car garaged near his holiday home in Lymington, the condition of the bodywork and underside are rust-free.

The soft top functions well however, the condition leads us to believe it may not be totally waterproof.

Paint

The Signal Red paint looks stunning. With the paint job being around 25 years old, the vibrancy of the colour has faded a little but still shines bright in our photos and videos.

Usual stone chips from the car’s mileage are present, and also a few cracks have surfaced along part of the bonnet. A touch up of paint was commissioned in April 2003, and the new owner may want to refurbish further.

Glass and Trim

Coming to the end of its restoration in 1998, the Triumph received all new door seals and chrome work of bumpers and handles. Door mirrors were replaced in April 2003 and look great today.

The door seals look very good, although the windscreen seal was not replaced at the same time, leaving an authentic touch. The chrome work looks in excellent condition as well as the glass.

Interior

Along with the exterior restoration, the interior was also attended to and now looks in really excellent condition - a key feature of this car.

Seats and Carpets

During 2003 the leather seats were reupholstered with new hide and foam. They have maintained their condition over the years and today look very good.

Red Securon seat belts create a further striking look to the colour scheme.

Dashboard

The wood veneer dash looks in excellent condition having been replaced in 2018. Illuminating light bulbs for the speedometer were also replaced at the time.

All gauges look to be original and fit perfectly into the more modern dash.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather of the original steering wheel has been replaced in the past along with the leather on the gear stick.

Mechanics

Lawrence has maintained the car since the engine rebuild during an earlier restoration,

Engine and Gearbox

The car bursts into life from cold, the 2.5L straight-six engine settling down when at temperature and we saw no blue smoke from the exhaust on our visit.

It’s fitted with a 4-speed gearbox all with synchromesh. The Triumph TR6 is with no overdrive and went through the gears with no issue when moving out of storage.

Suspension and Brakes

As we moved the car out for the photoshoot we noticed the rear end suspension had a bit of extra play than usual. We applied pressure pushing down on the rear and the Triumph bouned a little more than usually expected.

Upon our visit, we believe a shock absorber may need to be replaced - this is a cheap and easy job for a DIY mechanic.

Electrics and Other

Lawrence assures us everything in the car works as it should. He has had numerous repairs commissioned on the car under his ownership.

The fuel pump was replaced in 2012, whilst the cooling system was changed in 2018.

History and Paperwork

Around 25 Years ago this Triumph was beautifully restored. Two booklets of photos documenting before and after the restoration can be found in the paperwork gallery and come as part of the sale.

Invoices detailing all parts used in the restoration from 1996 - 1999 are in the gallery. There are also many handwritten notes from Lawrence's ownership detailing repairs with some of the major ones having been mentioned in the listing. The car does not have the original owners handbook, however there is a full history of maintenance since the restoration.
