Powerful, luxurious and above all beautiful – The Stag brought a new dimension to the Triumph stable
The handiwork of Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Stag was launched in 1970 and was like nothing else from a British manufacturer at the time. Based on a shortened Triumph 2000 floorpan the four seat, two door luxury tourer was Triumphs first unitary construction sports car. Strong, luxurious, and powerful the Stag was a hit with the public and met with critical acclaim. Elegant looks, smooth power delivery and an opulent interior resulted in real enthusiasm from the motoring press. All original Stags were powered by Triumphs own 3 Litre V8 and offered with either automatic or manual transmission with overdrive. Stags are immensely popular classics today and of the 17,819 originally produced for the UK market around 8,300 remain registered with the DVLA – a remarkable survival rate of around 46%.
This Stag comes to auction from ~11 years in the same family. It's a lovely example in "Leyland White" over a beautiful back interior, this car delivers the power via a 3-speed automatic gearbox. Restored by the current owner, and having covered less than ~1,000 miles in ~13 years, it's a great example which is ready to go.
This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Steve the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Can you advise any leaks please.
Hello,
I presume you mean oil, transmission or coolant leaks. No there is not, I have a picture of the garage floor where it has been kept this last 10 years since the garages were built. It does show some staining from past leaks before rectification.
Steve,
Thanks for your prompt reply that is good news.
Paul.
Very nice car Pity about the engine bay which does not look good. That puts me off bidding unless it can be addressed Mzrybrown
WHAT NEEDS ADDRESSING is it major .If not may consider abid Marybrown7*
As per the details on the site, this car is perfectly drivable as is.
What needs addressing is down to personal choice and a willing ness to carry out the work oneself.
Bodily there are two marks but if left would not be a concern if kept dry stored.
Under the bonnet is the original patina, again the body is solid if required it could be painted black as a some do. Tin of paint and time.
Heater control is stiff, remove center console and check working lubricate. Time and WD40.
Seat covers are great, padding needs replacing in places. Again time and new padding, (Rimmer Brothers) or local upholsterer.
I used it last year without problem, stored dry in my garage over winter, come spring, no brakes. Replace master cylinder and service and Pre MOT check.
Three weeks ago, stubborn starting, replace battery all is well.
It is a 50-year-old car that looks and runs well. It will always need some TLC somewhere as Classic cars do.
Great for days out or touring but not for everyday use, no classic car is.
You can do as much or as little, it will never be concourse.
I have loved the many hours spent on it as cars are my passion. Don’t ask how much time and money I have spent on it. The receipts are there not including time and bodywork and respray.
The reason I have not done anymore is I am happy with it as it is, also I have M.S. progressing which is starting to make life difficult.
No problem I am still alive. 🙂
It is time for someone else to enjoy and look after her.
Best regards.
