Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

With sharp lines and a fuel-injected engine, the Triumph TR6 is classic British motoring at its finest.

The TR6 was built between 1968 and 1976. The first bodies were built in Liverpool, and the '6' was the best-seller of the TR range. Out of the ~91,850 produced, only ~8,370 were ever sold in the UK. The frame, engine, running gear, body tub, and door were very similar to the Michelotti-styled TR5. The design of the front and rear of the car was restyled by Karmann of Germany, yet rumors claim the squared-off tail design was a Michelotti prototype.

With just six previous keepers on the V5C, our vendor Stephen has been two of those - a fine example of a British classic with the most well documented history you will probably ever see.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Stephen the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The Triumph TR6 has been a part of my life for several years, having now owned it twice.

Stephen has spent several years with this stunning 1973 Triumph TR6. The first time around, the car was sold to help fund a house build. Several years later, he received a call from the son of the gentleman he sold it to, who asked if he would be interested in buying it back. In a position to do so, Stephen jumped at the chance to bring the TR6 back into his collection.

Now with a shuffle around in his collection, this is one of the cars which has drawn the short straw to be sold.

Please feel free to ask Stephen any questions in the comments below.

Exterior

A British icon from the '70s - the design was sharpened up at the front and rear, but the middle remains the same as a TR4.

Wheels and Tyres

The steel wheels are finished in silver and look in good order with no corrosion to the faces. There are finished with a chrome trim and TR6 centre caps, which are in excellent condition.

The Firestone tyres are all matching and have a good amount of tread remaining.

Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

Looking around the TR6, the bodywork is in excellent shape; no dings or dents were spotted, and the shut lines are visually equal and matching.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in Mimosa Yellow, the Triumph was repainted in 1998 and has stood the test of time exceptionally well. There are a couple of small chips which have been touched in, but these are minimal.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or noticeable scratches to mention and all of the brightwork is in excellent condition.

The roof sits nice and tight, and there is no damage. The tonneau cover also fits tightly over the roof.

A double duck tonneau cover is included, which is also in good condition.

Interior

The time-warp interior of the TR6 is in its original condition.

Seats and Carpets

Original vinyl seats are in excellent condition with no damage. The small rear seat is also in good order. The door cards have warped a small amount but are in good condition.

The carpets are thought to have been replaced at some point and are in excellent condition throughout. Inside the boot is also clean and tidy. The spare wheel, jack, and other tools are present.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

Like the seats, the dashboard is original and free from splits or cracks. The wooden fascia is in good order, and the instruments are said to be working correctly, with the odometer showing ~76,453 miles.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original steering wheel has some minor signs of use, in keeping with the age of the TR6.

The gear knob clearly shows the 1-4-R and is in good order.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

2.5 litre straight-six fuel-injected engine has a beautiful soundtrack.

Engine and Gearbox

With the turn of the key, the 2.5 litre instantly fires up a couple of small throttle blips, and it comes to a smooth and even idle.

The TR6 has been given a recent service and has also just had one of the injectors replaced.

The four-speed gearbox has overdrive on third and fourth, which is operated via a stalk on the steering column.

There has also been a new clutch kit fitted.

Suspension and Brakes

Sitting just nicely, the TR6 provides a great ride and a sporty feel without being harsh or crashy on the road.

Stephen loves how it handles, commenting, “it’s certainly one of the best handling classics I’ve ever driven”.

Stopping the Triumph is easily achieved in a straight line with no issues reported.

The Drive

What a car to be in! A '70s classic, which looks fantastic, handles like it’s on rails and sounds amazing when you give the accelerator a firm press.

Electrics and Other

Everything is reported to work correctly in the Triumph. The switchgear is in good condition with minimal signs of wear to the lettering. There is a Philips radio fitted, which looks to be the original.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

Probably one of the most comprehensive history files we have ever seen - this is one superb TR6.

It’s safe to say the TR6 has been well cared for. The history file is amazing; there is the original bill of sale, the original registration booklet and then previous MOT certificates dating back to the '70s. And that’s not all, there are hundreds of invoices for parts purchased; no matter how small, there is a receipt.

An excellent chance to become the custodian of a '70s British classic which is in splendid condition and ready to be enjoyed.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
