Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
A lightweight fibreglass shell and a Rover V8, this car is all about the thrill and excitement on challenging roads.
The performance-focused manufacturer TVR, produced the Chimaera between 1992 to 2003. The Blackpool-born company started around 1947 and has produced some of the most iconic lightweight sports cars the UK has ever seen.
The Chimaera hits the sweet spot between a highly focused performance car and a useable weekend driver. Under the lightweight fibreglass bonnet, you'll find the Rover V8 with its simple and strong mechanics. And underneath the body, the Chimaera was based on the same tubular chassis as the Griffith, but with a slight focus on comfort and more luggage space. It quickly became TVR's best-selling model, surpassing the Griffith and was praised for its balanced handling.
This Chimaera is a real cherished drivers car, with ~49,000 miles on the clock, and having been with it's current owner for 18 years. An all important manual gearbox of course, and finished in the popular colour of "Cosmos Blue" over a cream leather interior.

Hi Rod We appreciate all of your comments but in your opinion is there anything that will require to be sorted in the near future paying particular attention to structure work
Thanks
Paul
Not in the near future to the best of my knowledge, the car passed it mot in July and is running well
Hi Rod are the outriggers OK I appreciate a little rust but is it just superficial
Paul
I had the outriggers wax oiled when the corrosion was pointed out and there was no problem at the mot again this July.
Hi Rod being six feet two would I be comfortable. I have wanted one of these cars for years
kind regards
Paul
You would have no problem, I am 6ft tall and there is plenty of room and it is also a very roomy and wide
All three of these services have been carried out by a local garage I have been using for some years.
July 2013 was a standard service changing oil and filter and also changed the brake fluid.
Mileage 47338
July 2016 was a standard service also and the steering gaiters were replaced
Mileage 47720
July 2019 was a standard service also
Mileage 48382
As you can see very little mileage has been done over this period , and since July 2013 until now only approximately 1500 miles.
As a long term TVR owner (I currently have a Tuscan), I just can’t bid blind on this. Picking up mog1969 question, please can you provide details of the three services you refer to, the specialist used, work done and cost involved. Not being difficult, but it’s impossible to assess a TVR and price it realistically without this information
Has it really not had a service since 2009(!) or is that an error?
That is not correct , the car was serviced in July 2013 ,July 2016 and July 2019 , each of the was the same date when it had it’s mot. The mileage over this period was very low .
Given that is been coming up on the MOTs since 2009 ,did you ever get a quote for having the outriggers replaced?
( You will appreciate that this is the biggest thing with the TVR chimera, and very well know, and it has an inevitability factor that they ALL will eventually need replacing, and most have by this age.)
I have not had them replaced while they are still okay and the garage I use said they would advise me well in advance of any deterioration, I know there are plenty of companies on line advising the cost for this work.

Looks expensive …
Hi Rod, I noted the last service was in 2009 – please can tell me whether its had any service or work done since then and if its been stored please can you tell me where/how its been stored. Please could also let me know if its had any chasis/outrigger work done and when and also if there were any advisroires on the latest MOT. Very many thanks
Hi Andy,
The service in 2009 was at 46883 miles , since then it was serviced in July 2013 ,July 2016 and July 2019 , with the limited amount of miles have been doing this is three services over approximately 2,000 miles.
The car has always been garaged and covered and I have not used it in the wet .
Regarding your question about outriggers , back in July 2010 it was pointed out on the mot about having slight corrosion and soon after that I had them cleaned and wax oiled , the comment comes up each year but points out that rigity is not reduced .
