Introduction
Richard Gormley
This design marked the start of a revolution - the 'Hot Hatch' revolution.
Introduced in 1976 the Golf GTI MK1brought a new dimension the family car market. Uprated saloon car performance was nothing new but this car combined sports car character and handling with good looks and practicality straight out of the box.
By 1983 the GTI was delivering 110bhp from a fuel injected, 1.8 Litre engine making it agile, spirited and communicative. Underpinned by VW’s legendary build quality it was an immensely attractive package which spawned a new generation of performance hatchbacks.
This car is a 1983 model in Lhasa Green with the Campaign interior. Lower numbers of cars were made in this colour and sound examples can be hard to find. The bodywork and paint need some attention, however, the car has a current MOT, the interior is in good condition and the wheels appear to have been refurbished recently. Ideal if you are looking for one of these iconic cars to use as a daily driver daily, or as a rolling restoration.
