Introduction
Dom Ginn
The Wolseley 1500 Series 3 replaced the hugely popular Morris Minor, offering more space and quicker speeds.
The Wolseley 1500 was produced from 1957 to 1965 and utilised many aspects of the Morris Minor such as floorpan, suspension, steering. However, the car was fitted with a larger 1,489CC B-Series engine and MG Magnette gearbox. In 1961 Wolseley launched Series III which offered a revised grille and rear lights.
This example has been fitted with a low mileage Marina 1800 engine and gearbox from an MGB making it a rather special Wolseley 1500. The current owner is a huge classic car fan and purchased the car last year as a near complete project. He's since finished the car with some interior jobs that were required and even joined the Wolseley register.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Kevin the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Hi Trevor
Yes all the panels are steel no fibreglass ones.
Cheers.
Hi, could you tell me if all the panels on the car are steel including the front wings
Thank you
Trevor
Hi Gary that’s not a problem as I have room, and I am due to collect another classic myself.
Hello Kevin, If I were to be the successful winning bidder, would you be able to hold the car for a week, as I’ve sold another classic this morning, but wont have free garage space until that one is collected.
Hi Robert the wings are steel, I have just rechecked with a magnet.
The reason for the new bolts is that the classic car company I got the car from had purchased it partially restored with the door wings and bonnet off the car so they basically put it back together and I have a couple of photos that show the car with no wings, doors or bonnet on which I am happy to pass on to the successful bidder.
just wondered if the wings had been changed to fiberglass a there are new bolts sticking through they may be steel
Hi Martin there has been no welding done while I have owned and the under seal is a coating that was sprayed on by the garage I purchased the car from.
If you look at the video of the interior view both the rear door shuts and the wheel arches are shown if you look around two minutes and three minutes you will see both the arches and doors.
Hi, can you tell me how much welding has been done to it? I notice there is a lot of fresh under seal under the car.. I cant see the rear wheel arch /door shuts in the video, (a normal place for concern) have you any pics of them?

Hi Martin
When I got the car I was told the engine was fine for unleaded which is all I have used with no issues.
I don’t have the original wheels however I have an unused set of four Weller steel wheels still in their boxes they are 5.5j
Although designed for the Morris minor they are the same as the Wolseley pcd and offset, they are currently not available from Weller and cost £500 but I am open to offers.
The back axle is quiet with no half shaft issues. The diff is 3.7 and is a strengthened one, neither the MG or Marina axles would fit without some alterations and their half shafts won’t fit the Wolseley axle. I would think the rear axle is original but as the car is fifty seven years old and I don’t have a full service history from new I really can’t say apart from its quiet when driving.
Cheers
Kevin.
Hi Kevin
In the threads you say the engine runs on unleaded, is that by an additive when fueling, or has the head been fitted with hardened valve seats.
Are the original wheels still available?
Any noise from the backaxle, seem to remember that MGB’s and 1.8 Marina/Ital had strengthened diffs and half shafts. Any idea what mileage the rear axle would have covered as likely to be original?
Cheers
Martin
Hi Gary
Thanks for your interest and the main reason I am selling it is because my classic car club are undertaking some camping events next year and I need a larger estate car to undertake the events.
I haven’t done much motorway driving but it happily sits at the speed limit when I have done. It does not appear to use much oil and I put this down to the engine being a low mileage one when it was installed I was told on purchase along with it being suitable for unleaded fuel and it is quite quiet when warmed up. As for water it doesn’t appear to use any.
As far as I am aware there are no known faults and it drives quite briskly compared to a standard car and it starts easily thanks to the 321 electronic ignition, and is much more comfortable with the replacement seats. There are a good range of spares with the car. I also believe in having a current MOT as it confirms the car has been fully checked over.
Like you I like heritage modified cars and I am in the process of buying a Morris Traveller that has many upgrades.
Thanks Kevin.
Hello, Your Wolseley looks lovely, and I appreciate the upgrade to the 1800 engine and MGB gearbox. I am very familiar with British classics and currently own a fast road Frogeye and an Austin A30, both with engine and gearbox upgrades. If you wouldn’t mind answering the following questions.
1. Please could you let me know, why its being sold as I’m quite wary of classics that are being sold after a relatively short time of ownership.
2. I do a fair amount of motorway driving (including to Europe, when allowed). How is the car at motorway speeds, and how is it regarding oil and water consumption?
3. I appreciate this is an auction therefore “sold as seen” and I’m very happy to rectify issues, as long as I’m aware of them beforehand. However, is there anything that I really should know, before bidding on your Wolseley?
Many thanks in advance.
