2005 Aston Martin DB9

Premium Classified Sale

Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

The DB9 is a sleek blend of luxury and power, embodying timeless British design with a roaring V12 engine.

Launched in 2003 as the successor to the DB7, the Aston Martin DB9 marked a new direction for the brand, built on the Ford-developed VH platform rather than the previous Jaguar-based designs. Powered by a 5.9L naturally aspirated V12 engine producing ~450bhp, it accelerates from 0-60mph in just ~4.9 seconds. Instantly regarded as a modern classic, the DB9 offers exceptional handling thanks to its front-mid engine layout, with much of the weight positioned behind the front axle. Designed by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker, the DB9 debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show and was the first model produced at the Aston Martin Gaydon facility, earning widespread acclaim for its performance and striking, modern design.

This example comes to market after ~14 years with our vendor and has only 1 former keeper. It carries just Aston Martin main dealer service history all its life, and has been serviced at the main dealer this year too. Not only this, but it is finished in a rare colour of "Grigio Titanio", a special order colour from factory. In its current ownership, the Aston has had its wheels refurbished in June 2020 and has been garaged stored with minimal miles added over the past few years. The car comes with a Garmin satnav, Parrot bluetooth hands-free phone system and an iPod connector, all supplied with the final sale.

This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Charles the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

Already a modern classic, the DB9 is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cars of its era.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19" multi-spoke alloys are finished in silver with Aston Martin centre caps. These show in great condition and show no signs of any concerning damage during our visit. Centre caps were replaced and all four wheels were refurbished at Aston Martin in June 2020.

The Aston is fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres all round. The tyres show 235/40 dated from 2022 at the front, and 275/35 from 2015 at the rear. All tyres appeared to be in good visual condition, with no initial concerns on the tread remaining, take a look through the pictures to see the detail.

Bodywork

While looking over the Aston during our visit, we found the panel gaps looked good, with both doors, the bonnet and boot open and closing smoothly. The roof section showed well with no concerns or issues. We did not observe any major dents, although there were some small notes of corrosion on rear wheel arches where they meet the rear bumper, and on the top of the offside front wing. There were also minor marks to the boot edges on both sides.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The DB9 is finished in a rare colour, "Grigio Titanio", a paint code made to order from first purchase. A beautiful colour well suited to the Aston which is a mid-grey tone, turning silver in the light. The paintwork has a smooth and even finish across all the panels. Being mainly garage stored over the last ~14 years, overall the paint quality shows well across the car although we did spot minor marks to the bonnet edges. During its current ownership, the bonnet has been resprayed by Aston Martin HWM in June 2020. Being picky, we noted some minor stone chips when looking over the front and marking to the boot edges.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and trim sections on the Aston Martin were in great condition, looking consistent with the car's age, the rear DB9 badge did look a little tired though. The front grill has been upgraded to the later facelift metal one, after the original was showing its age. The window seals also showed with the same level of quality on show. The front and rear lights show in great condition with no issues.

Check out the exterior gallery and review video. We guide you through all areas of the car as if you were standing there yourself, so you can see in greater detail how the car is presented.

Interior

Beautiful wood trim, hand stitched leather and luxury design details, this DB9 shows off Aston Martin craftsmanship with real style.

Seats and Carpets

The DB9 features seats finished in comfortable black leather, these appeared to be in great condition, just a few signs of creasing to the leathers in line with the age and mileage of the car. The rear seating section showed with minimal use or concern. The DB9 features multi-function electric seats.

The carpets showed no major issues, they looking in good condition. The only observation we noted, was that the headlining is sagging. Over in the boot, this area reflected the same quality as the cabin section. We cover the cabin area of the Aston in more detail in our interior review video.

Dashboard

The black leather dash looks to be in great condition, free from any significant marks. The dashboard presented really well, with no visible cracking or warping when we visited the car and showed ~86,084 miles on the clock. All the numbers and dials on the dash appeared clear and legible.

The wooden inlay in the main cabin section showed in similar condition and without any issues. Gauges, switches, and controls all appeared to be in great condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratching. Our interior gallery section offers a closer look at the Aston's dashboard.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The black leather Aston Martin steering wheel features driver controls on the centre section. The steering wheel is in great condition, with no signs of major damage or wear, just minor notes of usage in keeping with the mileage. The flyaway handbrake also looked great, positioned to the right of the drivers seat.

Additional images of the cabin area, including the steering wheel, are available in our "Interior Gallery" section for more details on what the Aston has to offer.

Mechanics

An iconic V12 with ~450BHP delivered to the rear wheels in a sporty yet luxurious GT experience.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine in the DB9 fires up without hesitation and sounds fantastic with its wonderful V12 growl. Showing in good visual condition, we noted no issues, smoke, or unusual noises. The car was last serviced by Aston Martin in May this year.

Gear changes were slick and showed no concerns with performance or whilst driving along the roads. Charles let us know although he hadn't had much use of the paddle shift semi-automatic gearbox, this option functioned without concern. Take a look at our "On the Road" video, where we cover the engine start-up and take the Aston around the local area to learn more about the car.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs, or other issues with the suspension while on the road, and it gave us no concerns regarding its performance or handling. The brakes felt great and were easily able to bring the Aston to a firm stop. Front discs and pads were changed in May 2016 and rear brake pads and discs were replaced in May 2019.

We cover the underside of the car in our 'Mechanical Gallery' section. Head over to our video section, where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view. We take you through the mechanical elements of the car and give you an overview of what's on offer.

The Drive

Although the suspension is ultimately setup for handling, the drive was really comfortable and very supportive. Charles, the current owner lets us know, "It’s docile and easy to manage around town, comfortable on long journeys and yet turns into a snarling animal if you put your foot down hard. Fantastic on the German autobahn!".

Our 'On the Road' video provides an overview of the car and its performance while driving.

Electrics and Other

The car is equipped with an in-built sat nav system, which is of course is a bit dated now. A Garmin satnav is supplied with the final sale. Charles has added a Parrot bluetooth hands-free phone system and an iPod connector, both of which will go with the car when it’s sold.

The DB9 also has a tracker fitted, although will need to be setup by the future keeper as its new owner. We tested the air-con whilst out on the road to verify its functionality which was operating well. The air con was serviced and re-gassed in May 2024. Charles let us know he had no issue with any of the vehicle electrics. All switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and in excellent condition.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~14 year ownership, just 1 former keeper, and 19 main dealer only service stamps, this car has been well cared for and looks a great buy.

Coming to market after ~14 years with Charles, it has a excellent servicing history completed by Aston Martin since its initial purchase, with the latest servicing carried out in May 2024 this year. The car comes with a clean MOT valid until 24.05.25. The current owner has added a Parrot bluetooth hands-free phone system, an iPod connector and a Garmin satnav, all of which will go with the car when it’s sold. The DB9 comes complete with its leather bound log book, tracker ID information, hands free Parrot guide and 2 sets of keys. Air con systems were serviced and re-gassed in May 2024. The original grill has been replaced, bonnet resprayed and all four wheels were refurbished by Aston Martin HWM in June 2020. Rear brake pads and discs were replaced in May 2019. The boot remote switch was replaced in May 2018. All spark plugs, coils and ignition coil assembly were changed in May 2017 and front discs and pads were changed in May 2016.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.
