Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

Sophisticated, stylish, blisteringly fast, and always ready to drop its top for a spot of wind in the hair motoring.

The Porsche 911 Turbo was introduced at the turn of the century in 2000, coming from the factory with a staggering ~420bhp coupled to an all-wheel-drive system that could reliably and quickly put the power down. As a result, the Turbo quickly became a popular sports car and had no difficulty upholding the reputation of the 911. Alongside its performance figures, the 911 Turbo benefited from the comfort and practicality of Porsche's German engineering, making it a well-rounded car that could be enjoyed and appreciated by all.

Not only did the turn of the century bring us the Turbo’s improved horsepower and all-wheel-drive system, but it also introduced a complete redesign for the vehicle, with smoother body lines, a longer nose, and a significantly lighter chassis that was ~45% stiffer than its predecessor. All of this combined to represent a considerable milestone in Porsche’s history, with some marking the introduction of the 996 Turbo as the beginning of the Porsche everyday supercar age.

Coming to the market after ~6 years ownership is this lovely 2005 911 Turbo Cabriolet, which has been well-maintained and just received refurbished turbos fewer than ~3,000 miles ago. It comes with a current MOT valid until 04.06.2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Francisco the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

Perfectly sculpted - wide hips, a discreet rear spoiler, and air intakes - what more could you ask for?

Wheels and Tyres

The Turbo Twist hollow-spoke wheels are in excellent condition, having been refreshed in April 2023.

Keeping the car stuck to the road is a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, which have a good amount of tread remaining.

Bodywork

Walking around the 911, the bodywork is excellent - all of the panels appear to have visually matching gaps, and there are no dings or dents that we could see.

We've provided high-resolution images and videos detailing our observations, so please take the time to review all media files for a comprehensive view of the car’s condition.

Paint

Finished in Basalt Black Metallic, the paintwork presents well. Stone chips are minimal, and being really picky there are a few light swirl marks which could easily be polished out with a mop and polish detail.

Images are taken from various angles to present the car as you would see it in person. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos to form your own opinion on the paint’s condition.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in good condition, with no noticeable scratches or marks. The window trims and seals look in good order. The fabric roof is also in good condition, with just a few minor creases from storage when the sunshine has been enjoyed, it is full operational too, going up and down in just a few seconds. The hardtop roof is included and is reported to be in good condition.

The headlights have slight discolouration, but this can easily be polished out with one of the headlight restoration kits available. The rear lights are in good condition.

The eagle-eyed among you may have spotted that the lower spoiler is, in fact, a Carrera 4S one. This is because it’s slightly narrower than the Turbo one, and it doesn’t catch when coming out of the garage and drive. An aftermarket Turbo spoiler is included in the sale.

Interior

Black on black with optional red seatbelts - the cockpit is a fantastic, comfortable place to pilot the 911.

Seats and Carpets

Finished with black leather electric and heated seats, these are in excellent condition with no real signs of wear, especially in the usual bolster areas. The rear seat and door cards are also in good order with no damage.

Throughout the car, the carpets are clean and tidy. There is a small amount of wear to the factory-fitted Porsche mats, but nothing excessive. Inside the boot, the spare wheel, jack, compressor and warning triangle are present.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The dashboard, finished in leather matching the seats, shows no damage.

The instruments have optional aluminium-look dials that all work correctly.

The odometer reads ~81,305 miles at the time of our visit.

No warning lights are displayed when the car is running.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original black leather steering wheel is in good condition with no signs of excessive wear.

The gear stick has a few light scratches on the top (usual for these designs).

Mechanics

The 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six has a mission to rearrange your face with ~420 BHP on tap.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.6-litre flat-six fires up without hesitation and with no smoke from the exhausts. Running with no issues reported, Francisco has recently spent nearly ~£8,000 having some issues addressed, including rebuilding both turbos and a full inspection of the car, addressing any concerns.

Fitted with the desirable six-speed manual gearbox, the change is precise, and with ~420 BHP, it's time to hold on as you work your way through the gears.

Suspension and Brakes

As you would expect from a performance car, the Porsche comes with a fantastic suspension package. Sitting a touch lower than a regular 996, the suspension has a firm and sporty feel. No knocks or bangs were heard on our test drive, and everything appeared to be in good order.

With drilled discs on each corner, the Turbo stops in a straight line, and no issues have been reported. The discs don’t appear to have much wear, and the red-finished callipers look in very good condition.

The Drive

Driving the 911 Turbo Cabriolet is undoubtedly an exhilarating experience, combining raw power with top-down thrills. Its 3.6L twin-turbocharged flat-six delivers ~420 BHP to all four wheels, launching it from 0 to 60 mph in just over four seconds. The precise steering, responsive handling, and adaptive all-wheel-drive system provide confidence-inspiring control, whether carving through winding roads or accelerating on the open road. With the roof down, the engine’s signature tone and turbo whoosh add sensory excitement, making every drive a special occasion.

Electrics and Other

The switchgear inside the car is in excellent condition, and everything works as it should, with no issues reported.

The factory head unit is in place, which does have satellite navigation, and there is a disc included, but this is from 2004.

History and Paperwork

A well-presented history file includes all the owner manuals and two keys.

It's always nice to see Porsche Club GB ownership details, which is usually a tell-tale sign of a well-kept car. The paperwork confirms this, having seen several service stamps. Whilst in Francisco's ownership, there has been regular servicing - not to forget the ~£8,000 invoice for the turbo rebuild just ~3,000 miles ago.

A fantastic opportunity to take ownership of the modern classic 996 911 Turbo Cabriolet. With a recent service and turbo rebuild, this is the perfect time to take ownership of this much-loved manual Porsche 911 Turbo.
