Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

There's no doubting the 997's ability to put a smile on your face - and the 997 C2 doesn't disappoint.

The sixth generation of 911, which launched its legacy in 2004, offered a little more sophistication to the design compared to its predecessor, increasing the appeal of a new generation of water-cooled 911s. In addition to its unmistakable styling and strong engineering, Porsche's ergonomics department created an interior that was aesthetically pleasing and offered additional room for both passengers and luggage. Not only did the 911 continue to be one of the greatest rear-engine sports cars ever made, but very few vehicles could match its reputation and craftsmanship.

First registered in May 2006, this Carrera with the desirable six-speed manual gearbox is presented in the classic Arctic Silver finish and grey leather interior combo. Fitted with the durable 3.6-litre flat-six engine, it comes with a regular service schedule and evidence of careful ownership over the years. There is an upgraded media centre to enjoy, as well as recent attention to its suspension to make the most of that driving experience, it comes with a current MOT valid until June 2025.

We think this could be the best opportunity to grab a future classic for a rather modest outlay.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Tracey the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

Neatly presented, with much of its originality intact, it serves as a perfect introduction to the world of 911.

Wheels and Tyres

The 18” 5 spoke alloys are free from rim damage, with just some corrosion noted on the offside rear wheel.

The car is fitted with a full set of Bridgestone Potenza tyres, all of which were fitted around four years ago.

Bodywork

Externally the car is free of dents and the body panels are well aligned with even door panel gaps.

We only spotted an imperfection coming through under the paint near the nearside rear arch, but that was it for panel blemishes. The bumpers are well-mounted and free of marks.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The silver paint has a healthy deep lustre, with no significant stone chips up front. The finish looks even with a decent consistency.

On our Exterior Review video shows the nearside upper section of the rear wing and top of the passenger doors shows damage to the clear coat, Tracey has since had this repainted at a cost of £1,800, she has sent us photos which we have added to the pictures section to show the finished result. We have also added some photos of when the car was in the process of painting in the history section.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen and seals are in good shape, with no chips.

Just some mild marks were noted on the rear nearside side glass.

The trim is in good shape with no outstanding defects, and the lighting and lenses are intact.

Interior

Its build quality really shines through, the interior has worn the years well.

Seats and Carpets

The leather seats are well presented, with a few age-related pockmarks noted on the driver seat and the mildest of wear on the bolster. The rear seats are intact, with mild indentation also seen on the right-hand side bench.

The carpets are in excellent order, all free of dampness.

The luggage area shows minimal evidence of use.

Dashboard

The cabin is cleanly presented with no significant signs of damage noted on the dashboard, other than a few light marks on the glovebox and facia padding. The stitching is intact and we couldn’t find any form of major degradation of the plastics.

The odometer was showing 80,382 miles at the time of our visit

The centre console is intact with some age-related marks, but nothing that distracts. All of the functions are said to work as they should. The leather door cards and headlining are in good shape.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multi-function steering wheel is in great condition, showing very few signs of age for a car of this mileage.

The aluminium gear lever does show some signs of wear, looking consistent with the age and mileage of the car.

Mechanics

The near-perfect combination of power, balance and noise awaits you.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fired up without any hesitation despite the somewhat cold and damp day - with just a mild but very brief squeal heard. No warning lights flagged up on the dashboard as the engine warmed up. As the engine idled, no more unwanted noises were heard and it ran smoothly with no undulations or hiccups.

The six-speed gearbox was demonstrated to work without issues, with the owner not reporting any malfunctions.

Suspension and Brakes

Recent work on the suspension should add confidence to the car's handling.

The brakes were demonstrated to work without any drama, slowing the car with no noise or uneven sensations.

The Drive

The 997 expected dynamic driving traits were very much evident during our test drive, with its pin-sharp handling and numerous driver aids all feedback to the driver without taking away any essence of its character. We were treated to a series of impressive bends and straights, which allowed us to observe the tightness of the suspension. It felt planted on the road, with no knocking or play noted as we drove on the country road.

The car was free of any creaks or any other unwanted noises, feeling remarkably tight for a car that is ~18 years old. The noise of the engine has always been an integral part of the 911 experience and the mechanical music of its flat-six didn’t disappoint. Well-tempered at low speeds, the occasional blip of the accelerator offers a smooth and addictive soundtrack with no evidence of issues with the exhaust, steering or ride.

Electrics and Other

The car has been fitted with an aftermarket Pioneer touchscreen DAB radio with smartphone connectivity to replace the original PCM. The original unit can be supplied if needed.

Tracey told us all other electrical components were working as expected to the best of her knowledge.

History and Paperwork

Its comes with a good history of servicing and maintenance.

First registered in May 2006 by Porsche London, it comes with a regular log of maintenance and eight records of servicing. Work carried out by the current owner includes new suspension coils, mounts and bearings via a Porsche specialist, most recently the paintwork carried out to the nearside rear wing. Tracey bought the car from a prestige car dealer in June 2020 and replaced all of the tyres shortly after buying it.

The car saw a full set of new discs and pads in 2018 and comes with a stack of maintenance and service bills from its previous owners. Last serviced in 2021, around 11,000 miles ago, it was given a positive bore score check. It has an MOT to May 2024. Tracey has had the the passenger side rear wing painted since our visit at a cost of £1,800, we have added in some new photos she sent over to us, the video still shows the old paint finish.

Please note the car will not be sold with the private plate.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned an HPI check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.
